Initiatives and Programs
Here are some of the ways in which we put quality and safety first:
Michigan Quality System
Modeled after the Toyota Production and GM’s Global Manufacturing System to enhance value for the customers, the Michigan Quality System is part of our continuing effort to improve quality, safety, efficiency and appropriateness across our three missions of patient care, education and research within the U-M Health System.
Office of Clinical Affairs
The Office’s goal is to maintain and improve the quality of patient care within UMHHC facilities. The Office is accountable for the quality of professional services by all individuals with clinical privileges or a designated Scope of Services at UMHHC.
Patients, Families and Visitors: Our Partners
Our patients, their families and visitors are our partners in ensuring and maintaining a safe, high-quality health care environment. The “What Patients and Families Can Do” section of this site identifies areas of empowerment and outlines your rights regarding access to respectful care, involvement in care decisions, access to your medical record, confidentiality of care, and concerns about care and billing.
Quality Improvement for Complex Chronic Conditions
QUICCC’s purpose is to develop and evaluate new interventions that improve care for chronically ill patients with an emphasis on identifying services that support effective primary care and patient self-management.
UM-CareLink Electronic Ordering System
UM-CareLink is a computerized provider order entry system that effectively addresses medication errors, the largest patient safety concern in hospitals nationwide. Electronic ordering also reduces the time it takes to get medication from the hospital pharmacy to the patient's bedside.
The UMHS Approach to Malpractice Claims
When it comes to patient safety, medical mishaps and medical malpractice litigation, UMHS believes in communication, full disclosure and learning from our experiences. Read the New England Journal of Medicine article about our innovative approach.
