Marcin Wojnar, M.D., Ph.D.
Marcin Wojnar, M.D., Ph.D. completed research fellowships at UMARC from 2002-2003 and 2007-2008. He is a Professor of Psychiatry at the Medical University of Warsaw and now also an Adjunct Professor in the University of Michigan Department of Psychiatry.
He has been working in the field of alcohol addiction for more than 10 years. Dr. Wojnar's research interests are focused mainly in the area of the pathogenesis and clinical course of alcohol dependence. During his research fellowship, Dr. Wojnar studied aspects of the comorbidity between alcohol use disorders and depression.
His current research interests are 1) Pathogenesis and course of alcohol dependence, alcohol withdrawal and delirium tremens; gender- and age-related differences in the phenomenology and course of alcohol dependence and withdrawal 2) Treatment outcomes in alcohol dependence; risk factors for relapse in AD, neurobiology of addictions, genetics of addictions, psychopathological and genetic and markers of relapse in substance use disorders, and 3) Suicidality, risk factors of suicidal behavior, genetics of suicide and impulsivity, links between suicidality and substance use disorders including alcohol.
