Dr.
McAweeney is a research fellow for the University of Michigan’s
Addiction Research Center (UMARC). She received her Ph.D.
in Educational Psychology from the University of Washington
and completed a Postdoctoral Fellowship in Medical Rehabilitation
Research in the Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation
at the University of Michigan in 1997. She worked for Solution
Point, a health care outcomes company, as a Methodologist
providing technical support to hospitals and health care
organizations.
Her graduate work has been a combination
of her clinical interests and background in the rehabilitation
of persons with disabilities and her technical expertise
in measurement, statistics and research design. She has
had numerous consulting positions including Washington Research
Institute, National Rehabilitation Hospital Research Center,
and Paralyzed Veterans of America. The focus of her publications
has been in the areas of psychosocial aspects of disability,
health outcomes, and improving research methods within the
health care field. Since returning to academics, Dr. McAweeney
has been working with other colleagues on the Michigan-Michigan
State University Longitudinal Study doing both clinical
and research work. The focus of her research is in examining
the development and clinical course of recovery as well
as determining the predictors of recovery from alcoholism.
