In addition to the development
and enhancement of research skills, the faculty are concerned
and invested in the professional career development of their
younger colleagues and trainees. The Section encourages the
development and enhancement of skills needed for pursuing a
successful career as an academician, researcher, and/or clinician-researcher.
In support of this goal, we encourage fellows and their mentors
to include career development as part of their individually
tailored training program. The career development component
should include assistance in clarifying training and career
goals, identifying strategies and opportunities for launching
a career, assistance in developing the skills and strategies
needed for a successful job search (e.g., identifying and searching
web and non-web based listing sources, practicing job-talks,
etc.), and attending more formalized training (seminars, workshops)
on building a career as a researcher academic.
