Welcome to the Department of Psychiatry's Substance Abuse Section. Here you will find information on the Section's research (U-M Addiction Research Center), and treatment (U-M Addiction Treatment Services) arms. You will also find pages on our education and training initiatives, our faculty and staff, as well as a special section providing information about substance abuse for readers from outside the university.
The Substance Abuse Section is one of the operating sections within the Department of Psychiatry. Robert A. Zucker, Ph.D., is Section Director and Kirk J. Brower, M.D., is Associate Director for Clinical Activities and Medical Education. The Section includes a staff of 17 addiction researchers, an active program of research involving 20 projects, a treatment program at University of Michigan Addiction Treatment Services along with two other affiliated treatment sites, an ACGME accredited Addiction Psychiatry Fellowship program, an NIAAA funded multi-disciplinary research training program for M.D.s and Ph.D.s, and an international training program for post doctoral fellows from Poland supported by the Fogarty International Center and NIDA.
