Institute For Social
Research
The University of Michigan is home to the
Institute
for Social Research (ISR), the world's largest university-based
social research unit, with a budget of $33 million that
supports over 350 professional and administrative staff
and collaborators in 40 countries. Researchers at the Institute
have made seminal contributions to social psychology, political
science, methodology, statistics, and survey research. ISR
has been the site for major recent studies of culture and
cognition, racism, psychiatric epidemiology, and the effects
of social factors on mental health.
Randolph
Nesse, M.D., previous Associate Chair for Education
and Academic Affairs in Psychiatry, has recently established
a new program at ISR to further develop evolutionary studies
of human adaptation and to advance related studies of psychiatric
epidemiology and education programs for future researchers
in these areas. This offers a special opportunity for residents
who want to pursue social science studies of psychopathology
and those who have an interest in Darwinian medicine. If
you have a special interest in these areas, please ask to
see Dr. Nesse when you interview.
