Colling Anthony (Tony) Collings

Anthony (Tony) Collings is an experienced journalist and media relations consultant. He covered the White House, Justice Department and other beats in Washington as CNN national correspondent, and was part of a CNN team that won an Emmy for its Oklahoma City bombing coverage. Earlier he was a foreign correspondent, with stints as Newsweek's London bureau chief and AP Moscow correspondent, and he has covered business news as a Wall Street Journal correspondent in New York. At the University of Michigan he is a Lecturer in the Department of Communication Studies in LS&A, and Senior Advisor for Media Relations to the Vice President for Communications. Tony has given media training to a number of UMHS senior administrators and faculty. In addition, he has his own consulting business, Media Relations Plus L.L.C., and has trained corporate executives, attorneys and other clients for public communication including both public speaking and media interviews. He is an honors graduate of Princeton and has an MA from the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy. He is also the author of Words of Fire, a book about press freedom issues worldwide, and has written a number of articles on media subjects.
