Faculty & Staff Communications
Reach your audience most effectively through a tailored, targeted message. We can assist you through these and other communication methods:
Global User and other e-mail messages
We manage distribution of Global User messages through a GroupWise mailing list. E-mail messages also may be sent to specific, targeted groups, such as nursing, faculty or others. While we do not manage every e-list, we can help you find the right resource or contact. Get information and guidelines on submitting a Global User e-mail request.
Internal Home Page "Top Stories" and other links
For a large percentage of the Health System's faculty and staff, the Internal Home Page is the default "home" Web page in the core Web browser setup established by Medical Center Information Technology (MCIT). This page features several areas where news items can be posted. The internal communications team in U-M Health System Public Relations and Marketing Communications chooses which items can be placed in these areas. Here are the guidelines they follow:
Top Stories carousel: This automatically revolving area features up to five items of extremely broad interest to the UMHS community, including messages from top leaders, institutional initiatives, major celebrations or observations, upcoming deadlines for institution-wide efforts, research news, and safety/health/employee benefits information.
Items must be requested a week in advance and may remain on the carousel for up to four days as space allows. Note: Events will not be listed unless there is a provision for employees to watch the event online no matter where they work.
The carousel will be used as a key part of urgent communications about emergencies related to weather, disease outbreaks, or U-M Health System facilities and operations. Prescheduled items may be bumped from the rotation by emergency communications.
To submit an item for consideration, send a message to umhsintcomm@umich.edu. Please include: the address of the Web page that the carousel item should point to, an image no smaller than 386x215 pixels in size, and text of no more than 100 characters including spaces. The PRMC team reserves the right to edit the text.
Internal banner advertisement: The bottom right-hand area of the internal home page features a "banner ad" that can promote an event, new clinical or support operation, or other item of interest to the U-M Health System community. Up to two banner ads may be running at once; they will alternate when a visitor visits the internal home page. Ads that have been created for externally facing Web sites may also be appropriate for this space. If a new ad is requested and approved, PRMC can assist with the creation of the ad. In either case, two weeks' notice is required for creation and scheduling of a banner ad.
M News Now items: The PRMC team monitors the news media for stories in which U-M Health System faculty, staff and leaders are quoted or mentioned, or U-M Health System research or institutional initiatives are described. Selected items are chosen for a short item on the M News Now page. The headline of the most recent item is featured on the Internal Home Page. If you would like to submit a news item for consideration, please send it to umhsmedia@umich.edu. For a list of all news coverage of U-M Health System, visit the media report page. To sign up to receive a daily e-mail of links to news items featuring UMHS people and programs, send a message to umhsmedia@umich.edu.
