About the Nondiscrimination Statement

The nondiscrimination statement, must appear on all external communications and must be updated before reprinting. It is not required on internal communications and can appear in the approved abbreviated form (see below) on ads, posters or when space is limited.

About the Nondiscrimination Statement (adapted from the U-M Communicator's Forum)

The Nondiscrimination Policy Statement is provided by the Office of Institutional Equity Affirmative Action Office (763-0235). The full statement must appear in publications as required by the U.S. Department of Education in response to guidelines regulated by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. The Office of the General Counsel says that the statement should be included in any materials or publications that contain general information and are used to “recruit applicants, participants, beneficiaries, or employees.” Posters could be exempt if they include no “general information” beyond the announcement of an event.

2009 LISTING—the Statement reads:

A Non-discriminatory, Affirmative Action Employer

All Health System units should only use the block M Health System logos, not the University seal.

In addition you are strongly encouraged to use a date/quantity code on all printed materials. For example, a brochure printed in February, 2006 in the quantity of 3,500 should have this or a similar code printed with the copyright info: 02/06/3.5K. This will help you better manage inventories and reprinting costs.
