Web Site Development & Maintenance
Public Relations and Marketing Communications will at no cost to the requesting department:
-
Develop, publish and maintain Web sites based on a standard UMHS web template. (Note that PRMC maintains a growing number of Web sites, so if any aspect of your site requires frequent maintenance, it may be best for you to maintain those pages yourself).
- Help you organize the content for your site.
-
Convert existing content from standard file formats including Word and other MS Office products to HTML. (Note that if we do not have the program that created your content, we will probably not be able to convert it).
-
Optimize your digital images for posting on the Web.
-
Provide images for your site from our library of digital photos.
- Link to sites for which you have provided a correct URL.
-
Add your site to the UMHS external and/or internal Web site, and the UMHS search engine.
-
Help you work with vendors to convert video content to a digital format, and work with MCIT to host this content on their Windows Media streaming server Recommend UMHS alternatives and outside vendors for other web services that Public Relations and Marketing Communications does not provide (see below).
The customer's role:
Before work on the site can begin, we will work with you to clearly identify the goals of the Web site, its audience and to answer other questions that will help us build a site that meets your needs.
As we build or maintain your site, you will submit content (text and images) to us in digital format. To make this process go as smoothly as possible, we've developed some content submission guidelines.
Other aspects of the customer's role include:
-
Regularly monitoring the site for content that needs to be updated.
-
Responding to questions regarding content on the site.
-
Finding sites that the department's site should link to.
-
Contacting the owners of sites which you want to link to your site.
-
Maintaining physician and clinic information (if applicable) via the Physician and Clinic Directory (contact Bonnie Turner, for information on how to do this).
-
Securing release forms for anyone appearing in photos you want to publish on your site.
-
If desired, publicize the site on web search engines (other than the UMHS search engine and overall promotion of major topic areas).
