Education
At the University of Michigan Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, our goal is to educate and prepare the next generation of national and international leaders in PM&R including research, clinical care and education. We aspire to be a premier training program for PM&R residency, Spinal Cord Injury Medicine and Pain Management Medicine. We are committed to Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education accreditation with commendation. And we are dedicated to increasing the diversity of the physicians in PM&R to reflect the rich diversity of the patient populations that we serve.
The specialty of physical medicine and rehabilitation also is called physiatry. This medical specialty provides medical care to children and adults to maximize recovery, achievement of independence and community integration after physical injury or illness due to developmental delay. Physiatrists are the physicians dedicated to the diagnosis and medical management of the consequences of disease, injury and congenital disorders.
PM&R means teamwork!
