Muscle Energy Techniques for Pelvis, Sacrum, Lumbar Spine and Lower Extremities
Course Credits: 16.5 Contact Hours, 1.65 CEUs
Course Description: Muscle Energy Technique is one of the most effective and valuable
manual techniques for the identification and correction of somatic asymmetry and hypo-mobility. Unlike manipulative therapies, which
presume joints are stuck out of place by some physiologic glue, Muscle
Energy is based on EVIDENCE BASED NEURO-PHYSIOLOGY that the joints are
held out of place by muscles which have too much tone. The technique
positions the joint in the direction of restriction of motion and
recalibrates the precise muscle spindles which are holding the bone in a
less than optimal position. The muscle returns to normal resting length,
tone and excitability, thus allowing the joint to return to the normal
position. By re-calibrating the spindle and correcting the cause of the
dysfunction, the techniques will correct all types of biomechanical /
orthopedic problems. This two-day course involves a mix of theory,
demonstration and hands on practice. Actual evaluation and treatments
will be performed by each participant using the methods learned.
Course Objectives: Upon completion of this workshop, you will be able to:
- Understand the basic concepts of muscles as they relate to the somatic dysfunctions.
- Understand the overwhelming advantages of M.E.T. vs. Manipulation.
- Be familiar with muscle spindle structure, as well as its neuro-faciliatory functions.
- Be able to palpate a “barrier” and understand the physiologic significance.
- Identify gait / stance asymmetries as they relate to somatic dysfunction.
- Palpate the basic bony landmarks of the Pelvis, Sacrum and Lumbar spine.
- Evaluate the Pelvis, Sacrum, and Lumbar spine for asymmetry and hypo-mobility.
- Decide on a proper sequence for treating a variety of somatic asymmetries.
- Perform basic Muscle Energy Techniques for the Pelvis, Sacrum and Lumbar spine.
- Be able to dialog with patients about perpetuating factors and intercourse precautions.
- Demonstrate basic stabilization exercises for Pelvic, Sacral and Lumbar dysfunctions.

Kinesio Taping ~ KT1 - Fundamental Concepts, Screening/Muscle Test & Muscle Applications - KT2 - Advanced Concepts & Corrective Techniques
Course Credits: 15.5 Contact Hours, 1.55 CEUs
Course Description: The KT1 course is designed to introduce practitioners to the Kinesio Taping Method. Over the course of this 8 hour class, the instructor will discuss the fundamental concepts of the Kinesio Taping Method and the unique properties and use of Kinesio Tex Tape. During lab sessions, attendees will have ample time to practice screening and muscle testing created for the enhancement of your KT skills and muscle applications for both the upper and lower body. Upon completion of this course, attendees will be able to discuss and apply the Kinesio Taping Method to relax overuse syndromes, stimulate weak muscles, and decrease pain and swelling.
The KT2 course builds on material learned in KT1. During this 8 hour class, the instructor will introduce the six Corrective Techniques (Mechanical, Functional, Space, Fascia, Ligament/Tendon, and Lymphatic) and discuss their application in a variety of clinical conditions. During lab sessions, attendees will have ample time to practice applying these techniques to a variety of upper and lower body conditions. Upon completion of this course, attendees will be able to discuss and apply the KT Method to orthopedic & neurological conditions.
Registration Fee: $529 (Payment and application must be received by October 1, 2008
EARLY BIRD SPECIAL ~ $489 (Payment and application must be received by September 1, 2008
Registration cost includes 6 full color course manuals, 3 rolls of tape for lab sessions, 1 yr. membership to database access and Instructors demo tape.

Evaluation and Treatment of Visual Perceptual Dysfunction in Adult Brain Injury Part II
Who Should Attend:
Therapists who have attended Part 1 course since 1991 when the concept
of the visual perceptual hierarchy was introduced and who want to gain further
expertise in evaluation and treatment using this framework. Therapists who
have not attended the Part 1 course should have a thorough understanding
of evaluation and treatment using the framework of the visual perceptual
hierarchy to benefit fully from this course.
Course Credits: 18 Contact Hours, 1.8 CEUs
Course Description:
A continuation of the part one course, this intensive three day workshop
provides a deeper understanding of how to evaluate and treat visual dysfunction
occurring due to CVA and traumatic brain injury. Participants are taught
how to link visual impairment to functional performance to identify the
functional limitations caused by visual perceptual dysfunction and develop
effective treatment intervention. Information covered includes how to interpret
and document evaluation results, how to collaborate effectively with ophthalmologists
and optometrists, and how to develop treatment plans and document progress.
Specific assessments to evaluate visual acuity, contrast sensitivity function,
visual field, oculomotor function and visual attention will be taught. Course
participants will have the opportunity to practice giving and interpreting
these assessments and to develop treatments plans for sample case studies.
Lectures and instructional materials for the course have been developed
with the assumption that the participant has taken the part one course.
Course Objectives:
Upon completion of this workshop, you will be able to:
- Select appropriate assessment tools to measure visual perceptual processing
- Use appropriate procedures and protocols to administer assessments to measure visual acuity, visual field integrity, oculomotor function, and visual attention
- Accurately interpret results of visual field, visual attention, visual acuity and oculomotor assessments
- Identify when it is appropriate to refer to other specialists for additional evaluation and intervention
- Use evaluation results to design evidence-based, effective interventions to address limitations in performance skills and daily activities
- Effectively communicate evaluation and intervention results to physicians, referral sources, clients and families
