Adapted Cognitive Assessment
The ACSESS project adapted standardized assessment instruments to make them accessible. By loading forced-choice responses into a software program with a scanning function, a child is able to make selections using assistive technology devices.
Receptive Vocabulary, or Crystallized Intelligence. The examiner verbally presents a word, the child selects the picture that best illustrates the word. In this brief video, a child used a saucer switch to select his answer.
Fluid Intelligence. The child selects the option that best completes the figure at the top of the screen. In this brief video, a child used a toggle switch mounted on his headrest to select his answer.
Academic Skills, e.g. Reading Comprehension. The child reads the target sentence to himself, then selects the picture that best illustrates the sentence. In this brief video, a child used a head-mouse to select his answer.
