PIBS Overview & Ph.D. Training Programs
One Application - 14 Graduate Training Programs
The University of Michigan Program in Biomedical Sciences (PIBS) invites you to explore your passion for science through our interdisciplinary gateway program, which coordinates admissions and first-year graduate studies for 14 doctoral programs. Graduate students entering PIBS are offered flexibility in the choice of any of the participating Ph.D. programs, while retaining the small, focused environment of each of the individual training programs. Entering students can immediately begin training in any of the degree programs, or take a course of study compatible with several programs.
PIBS is proud to be a part of one of the largest and most vibrant research communities in the country, consistently ranking among the top 10 schools for NIH funding. Our students enjoy access to more than 500 talented faculty and their laboratories and are not required to make final decisions on which research laboratory and training program they will enter until the end of their first year.
The strength and diversity of music, theater and the arts help make Ann Arbor one of the nicest locations in the country – routinely listed as one of the top 10 places to live by national magazines. Whether you stay at the University of Michigan for graduate school or move on to another institution, we predict you will enjoy your time in Ann Arbor.
