Frequently Asked Questions
Can I attend Preview if I am a prospective student?
Yes, Preview is strictly for prospective Ph.D. students who are interested in pursuing Fall 2014 admissions to the University of Michigan Program in Biomedical Sciences or Fall 2015 admissions to the Medical Scientist Training Program. If you meet eligibility requirements please apply online.
Is Preview really fully funded?
Yes, if you are selected to attend, all airfare, transportation, hotel, and on-campus meals are included. Outside of personal spending, students do not have to incur any out-of-pocket expenses.
Is applying to Preview and applying to a graduate program at the University of Michigan the same?
No, applying to Preview is for a two day campus visitation to connect with faculty and current graduate students to explore graduate training opportunities prior to submitting an application. It is not an official graduate admissions application or interview.
Can I apply to Preview if I have not yet officially applied to a graduate program at the University of Michigan?
Yes, in fact most students attending Preview will use the experience to decide if they should apply to Michigan.
If I do not get accepted to Preview does that mean I cannot apply to graduate school at the University of Michigan or that I am not qualified for graduate studies at the University?
Preview has only a limited number of spaces and it is not possible to accept all qualified candidates who apply. If you do not get accepted to Preview, please continue to consider applying for admission to PIBS.
What browser should I use to complete the Preview application?
The Preview application has been tested in
- Mozilla Firefox, Google Chrome, and Microsoft Internet Explorer (7 and 8) for Windows XP
- Mozilla Firefox, Google Chrome, Opera, and Safari for Mac OS
The application requires that JavaScript is enabled in your browser.
What should I do if one of my recommendation writers never received my request email?
It is possible that the automated email notifications/requests that are sent to the recommendation writers may not be delivered successfully due to aggressive Spam filters. If the status of any of your requested recommendations is still reported as "Not Started" after a long period of time (longer than you would expect your writer to wait before submitting the recommendation), that may be due to an undelivered request email, and you should contact your writer and/or contact PIBS and ask us to re-send your request email (be sure to specify which writer or writers need requests re-sent).
