Events
On Campus
Every year we seek out the most highly qualified and diverse student population to enroll in PIBS and eventually find a home in one of our 14 Ph.D. programs. We host a number of events annually for prospective students interested in learning more about PIBS and what our program has to offer. These events are also great opportunities for prospective students to meet our faculty members and learn about their research in person.
The PIBS office is open and available for you to drop by. If you have planned a trip to the UM campus, please stop in to meet with PIBS staff and receive more information about our program.
Annual Campus Events
PIBS / MSTP Summer Research Celebration
July 19, 2012
Students participating in summer research on campus will have the opportunity to learn all about what UM has to offer them through an in depth overview presentation, interactive panel discussion and fair with faculty and graduate students from all PIBS 14 PhD programs and faculty leadership and students from MSTP (combined MD/PhD). Registration is requested by 7/16.
PIBS Open House
October 6, 2012
This free, one-day event is typically held on a Saturday in mid-October and offers all prospective graduate students in the sciences the opportunity to interact with faculty and current graduate students from across the University of Michigan campus, and learn more about graduate program(s)/research area(s) of interest, admissions and student life. All 14 Ph.D. training programs have representatives available to meet with attendees. This is a great opportunity to have questions answered first-hand, as well as to experience the UM campus and Ann Arbor. .
PIBS Preview
October 4-6, 2012
The PIBS Preview, a three-day event that begins the Thursday before Open House, is designed for students who are traditionally under-represented in the sciences and interested in pursuing a Ph.D.
Attendees participate in a variety of activities and workshops on applying to graduate school at UM. The extended time and smaller group settings provide ample opportunities to meet one-on-one with faculty, socialize with current graduate students, see the campus and experience the diverse and welcoming city of Ann Arbor. The Preview event includes the PIBS Open House on Saturday, where all prospective graduate students gather to network with faculty, students and peers from across the UM campus and the country.
Space is limited for this all-expenses-paid event. Expenses include travel, lodging and on-campus meals. The application for Preview 2012 is now open! Apply by August 1, 2012.
On the Road
As part of our effort to meet and recruit the most qualified applicants, we go on tour every year to a variety of universities. For those students who are not able to travel to Ann Arbor, these events provide a wonderful opportunity to learn what PIBS and the UM have to offer.
These off-campus events include information sessions, conferences, graduate and professional school fairs, and meetings at both large and small institutions across the country.
We encourage you to review the following information to learn about UM and PIBS events and activities, and to see where we'll show up next.
