After Admission
Once you have accepted our offer, you will need to select a start date for your first rotation. Students may choose to begin in July or September of that academic year. Students who choose to start in July have the advantage of spending the summer doing full-time research, uninterrupted by coursework. Other students prefer to start in September due to personal scheduling issues. Regardless of your choice of start date, all PIBS students perform at least two (usually three) research rotations.
Regardless of when you choose to start your first rotation, all students:
- Attend orientation with fellow classmates
- Schedule a one-on-one meeting with the PIBS Director
- Develop an individualized course schedule in consultation with the faculty academic advisor from your first program of choice
- Must submit a final undergraduate transcript with official degree posted directly to Rackham Graduate School
Setting Up Your First Rotation
We encourage all PIBS students to fully research our faculty database and to contact potential research mentors before arriving on campus. Here are a few tips to make setting up your first rotation a success:
- Be proactive about the choice of your rotation mentor
- Review faculty and their research interests to get an idea of where you might want to go first
- Contact faculty before you arrive (most faculty members prefer to be contacted initially by email)
- Read some recent papers from the faculty member's laboratory so that you will be prepared to ask key questions
