Life Sciences Orchestra

The University is home to the nation's only Life Sciences Orchestra (LSO) which is made up of members of the University of Michigan's medical and science community.  Founded in 2000 the LSO brings together U-M faculty, staff and students involved in medicine and the life sciences, giving them a new outlet for their musical talents and a chance to interact with others across academic boundaries.  The orchestra made its debut in January 2001, attracting more than 1,000 audience members to the Michigan Theatre.  It performs each year in mid-winter and late spring.

In addition to the LSO the University has a diverse schedule of musical performances all year long.  With a top notch Music School, and a highly acclaimed Musical Society the U-M provides a variety or performers ranging from gifted local talent to nationally recognized names.  Ann Arbor itself has its own symphonic orchestra. Established in 1928 the Ann Arbor Symphony Orchestra holds several performances a year including events programmed with children in mind allowing for a rich cultural experience for the entire family.
