University Campus Landscape

The Historic UM Law Quad

The University of Michigan Law School is a wonderful work of architectural art. The school is open to all students and provides a wonderful place to study and relax.

Michigan Student Union

The Michigan Union is the center for many student activities and is located near the heart of the Michigan campus. The union provides for studying, recreation, and eating, and houses many of the student services offices.

Nichols Arboretum

Nichols Arboretum, adjacent to the University campus, is one of the many natural attractions located in Ann Arbor. Visitors can enjoy hundreds of plant species native to Michigan while walking along the miles of hiking trails that wind through its 123 acres.

The University of Michigan was founded in 1817 as one of the first public universities in the nation. The school was originally located in Detroit and relocated to its current location in Ann Arbor in 1837. In its first year in Ann Arbor, the University had two professors and seven students; today the University is host to approximately 24,000 undergraduates, 14,000 graduate students and 2,800 faculty members. Currently, the University of Michigan is one of the world's leading public universities and it is one of only two public institutions consistently ranked in the nation's top ten universities. The University of Michigan boasts one of the largest health care complexes in the world, the best university library system in the country, and the some of the best computer access for students and faculty of any campus. The University of Michigan attracts esteemed professors from around the world and hosts a wide range of cultural events promoting local and visiting artists, musicians, writers and celebrities. The intellectual, cultural and environmental components of the University of Michigan and Ann Arbor work together to provide a comfortable home to thousands of students, postdoctoral trainees, faculty and staff.
