PGY2 Residency in Infectious Diseases
The Department of Pharmacy Services at the University of Michigan Hospitals and Health Centers is recruiting applicants for a one-year ASHP accredited PGY2 Residency in Infectious Diseases. This PGY2 residency will begin July 1, 2009. The program director and contact person for this program is Daryl DePestel, Pharm.D.
Clinical Practice Experiences: A diverse number of experiences in infectious diseases are available within The University of Michigan Health System. Examples of potential rotations include: infectious diseases consult service, microbiology, HIV/AIDS clinic, antimicrobial management, pharmacokinetic monitoring service, hematology/oncology, solid organ transplant, and more.
Research and Publications: Through the research and writing requirements of the program, the resident has the potential to produce at least two manuscripts suitable for peer-reviewed publication by the end of the residency.
The resident will participate in the development and implementation of a research study protocol of interest, relevant to infectious diseases pharmacotherapy. Experience in protocol writing, data collection and analysis, manuscript preparation and publication will be provided.
Development of writing and presentation skills is available through writing of review articles and research papers, providing written communication to other healthcare professionals, as well as presentations to the Department of Pharmacy personnel and at local, regional and national meetings.
Teaching: Teaching is another important component of the program, and to that end, the resident will receive a faculty appointment at the University of Michigan College of Pharmacy as a Clinical Instructor. Experience in rotation-related teaching of both Pharm.D. students and PGY1 residents is widely available. In addition, this PGY2 resident will gain experience in didactic teaching as well, instructing third-year Pharm.D. students at the University of Michigan College of Pharmacy.
Minimum qualifications include graduation from an accredited college of pharmacy with a Doctor of Pharmacy degree and completion of a PGY1 residency or equivalent experience. The application deadline is January 2, 2009. For more information or to obtain application materials, please contact:
