Pulmonology: Research
Samya Z. Nasr, M.D.
Dr Nasr has been focused on clinical research in cystic fibrosis. She is currently responsible for the following studies:
A comparison of high resolution CT scan of the chest and pulmonary function testing in evaluating the efficacy of Tobi© in cystic fibrosis patients 6 years of age and above.
Recruitment for this six-month study is complete. Thirty-two patients were enrolled. This study will not only examine the efficacy of inhaled tobramycin treatment, but it will help answer the question of whether high resolution CT scanning is as sensitive as pulmonary function testing in the detection of lung disease in infants with cystic fibrosis.
A randomized, double-blind, placebo controlled study to investigate the efficacy and safety of 24 weeks of oral treatment with B11L 284BS, as anti-inflammatory agent, in adult (75 mg/150mg) and pediatric (75 mg) cystic fibrosis patients.
This study, funded by Boehringer Ingelheim Pharmaceuticals, is part of a multi-center trial examining the role of leukotriene modifiers in the treatment of cystic fibrosis.
Genetic modifiers of cystic fibrosis.
This study will evaluate the effect or presence of genetic modifiers that lead to different phenotypic presentations in siblings and twins with identical cystic fibrosis genotypes. This is a multi-center study funded by National Institutes of Health; the principal organizing center is Johns Hopkins Medical Center.
Exercise testing in patients with cystic fibrosis.
This study will determine the variability of a 6-minute walk test in cystic fibrosis subjects. It will also help determine the need/importance of exercise testing in patients with this disease. This is a multi-center study funded by Genentech, Inc.
