Nephrology
David B. Kershaw, M.D. Director, Nephrology
The Pediatric Nephrology Division at the University of Michigan excels in patient care, research, and physician training. The division's goals are to provide state-of-the-art care for patients with all forms of kidney disease from infancy through late adolescence, as well as to advance our knowledge about pediatric kidney diseases.
Clinical Care
Particular strengths include:
- Renal transplantation (we are one of the top five pediatric transplantation programs in the country)
- Care of infants with urologic and nephrologic disease
- Diagnosis and treatment of acute and chronic glomerulonephritis (over 100 renal biopsies were performed last year for diagnostic purposes)
- Acute and chronic dialysis for kidney failure
Research
We have very active clinical and basic science research programs with four NIH-funded investigators.
Education
Our NIH funded fellowship-training program has an excellent track record of preparing physicians in the clinical care of pediatric nephrology patients and for an academic career in pediatric nephrology.
