Child Behavioral Health
Director, Child Behavioral Health
The Division of Child Behavioral Health at the University of Michigan is composed of faculty members representing developmental-behavioral pediatrics, pediatric psychology, and adolescent medicine. The Division has three primary missions: clinical care, research, and education.
The Division of Child Behavioral Health provides comprehensive evaluation and treatment for children and adolescents who have problems with growth, development, behavior, or adaptation to illness.
The research mission of the Division is to advance knowledge of the interplay between development, behavior, and health. Research in the Division includes neuroscience, epidemiology, basic behavioral science, health services research, and clinical research. Current research programs are related to brain-behavior development, eating/feeding behavior, eating disorders, obesity, adherence to chronic illness treatment, and health-related quality of life. Research in the Division is funded by the National Institutes of Health, the American Heart Association, private foundations and internally through University of Michigan initiatives.
The teaching mission of the Division encompasses undergraduate students, medical students, pediatric and family medicine residents, pre-doctoral psychology trainees, post-doctoral psychology fellows, and practicing pediatricians. Professional teaching occurs in clinical settings, in the classroom, and within the context of research. The Division is also committed to the education of patients, families, and members of the community. All pediatric residents participate in a month-long developmental-behavioral pediatrics rotation and a month long adolescent rotation. The rotation includes clinical experiences, off-site visits to community resources, and topic-focused teaching by faculty.
