For epicardial DDD generaors implanted before age 4 the longevity is limited and is worse than that of the atrial epicardial electrode. 50% of such generators reach end-of-service between 4.5 and 5 years post implant. For this age group generator longevity is the limiting factor for determination of the time between pacemaker mandated interventions.
