Division of Audiology: Make a Gift
Pediatric Otolaryngology Clinical and Research Advancement
Imagine being born into a world of silence. Now imagine being left to fend for yourself. Hearing loss is considered the most common disability identified in children today. Hearing loss has far reaching implications in all aspects of a child’s life. It has been documented that early identification and intervention of hearing loss has a significant positive effect on communication and overall development.
As one of the largest birthing hospitals in the state of Michigan, we have the opportunity to provide comprehensive audiology service to infants, children and their families. You and your family can contribute to our state-of-the-art clinical and research programs, such as the Early Hearing Detection Program or the Family Hearing Center.
Your philanthropic giving will help with:
- Examinations by Otolaryngologist (ear nose and throat doctor)
- Examinations by Geneticist
- Audiologic testing (hearing testing of adults and pediatric family members)
- Genetic Counseling
- Funding outreach efforts, such as the development of user-friendly and interactive websites, production and distribution of newsletters for patients and families
- Purchasing hearing aids for individual children and create a loaner hearing aid bank
- Support for presentations at statewide organizations providing continuing education for teachers, speech pathologists, and educational audiologists
- Enabling the pursuit of clinical research initiatives
- Naming opportunities for sound proof audiology booths and family tree plaques exist for those interested in donating funds to this important area of our clinical service.
Additionally, Pediatric Otolaryngology has set a goal to develop a new clinical center inside the new Mott Children's Hospital. We want to provide the best possible care for children with head and neck and communication disorders, such as research and treatment for sleep-disordered breathing and airway issues, hearing loss, ear drum repair and management of chronic ear infections, surgery for congenital deformities of the head and neck, salivary gland surgeries and tumor removal. Currently our clinical programs cannot expand or are located in multiple different sites due to lack of space. You can contribute to our new clinical center construction goals.
Finally, we are establishing an innovative type of fund, the Grandparent's Fund, specifically to recognize the importance of grandparents in supporting the health care of their children and their children’s children. While families in the United States tend to be spread out geographically, grandparents are an invaluable resource to help when a child becomes ill. This fund is dedicated to investigations of hereditary disorders that are important for the entire family, and for research to improve the care of chronically ill children.
