Advanced Research Training in Otolaryngology Program

Welcome to the Advanced Research Training in Otolaryngology Program!

For the past 20 years, ARTOP has provided research training for medical students, resident physicians and post-residency fellows to develop the next generation of clinician-scientists.

The University of Michigan’s Department of Otolaryngology-Head & Neck Surgery is consistently top-ranked because of our reputation for excellence in patient care and our commitment to research training.

Research mentors are part of our internationally-recognized faculty (pdf) consisting of both basic and clinical researchers in a broad variety of disciplines (MS Word).   Many mentors are themselves accomplished clinician-scientists who are in demand as research mentors.

Physicians clinically trained in otolaryngology-head and neck surgery are those most likely to undertake research that advances the care of patients with hearing loss, head and neck cancer, vocal disorders, and sleep disorders to name a few.  To this end, ARTOP provides:

ARTOP is innovative in that it is the only program nationwide providing an 18 month research opportunity to otolaryngology residents within a 6 year (including internship) residency program.
