Educational Benefits
Educational Stipend
Each resident is given a $2000 educational stipend. This can be used for books or equipment and is nearly universally used to purchase loupes during the intern year in preparation for the Hand, Spine and Foot Services.
Laptops
Residents (PGY 2-5) receive a departmentally funded laptop to use while in residency.
Conferences
Residents are sponsored to attend several educational courses during their residency
- Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS) for PGY I’s
- Basic Fracture Course (OTA) for PGY II’s
- Prosthetics and Orthotics Course at Northwestern for PGY III’s
- AAOS Meeting for PGY IV’s
- A board review course for PGY V’s
In addition, travel and lodging will be funded for any resident presenting a paper or poster at one meeting per presentation. Additionally special funding for courses is occasionally available as well. Residents are encouraged to attend other courses should opportunities arise.
Journals
Each resident is given subscriptions to both the Journal of Bone and Joint Surgery as well as to the Journal of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons.
