U-M breast oncology program benefits from televised fund-raiser

QVC® and FFANY® present U-M Cancer Center with $402,000 check

ANN ARBOR, MI – With thousands of shoes at half the suggested retail price, shoe lovers had the opportunity to splurge in the name of charity at the 13th Annual QVC Presents “FFANY Shoes on Sale event during October, Breast Cancer Awareness Month. The University of Michigan Comprehensive Cancer Center’s Breast Oncology Program was one of the beneficiaries of the televised fundraiser that benefits breast cancer research and education programs.

QVC and FFANY representatives presented Daniel Hayes, M.D., clinical director of breast oncology at the U-M Cancer Center and professor of internal medicine at the U-M Medical School, with a check in the amount of $402,000.
"FFANY/QVC has been instrumental in supporting several avenues of research that would not have been pursued otherwise,” says Hayes. “These people are dedicated to ensuring that we make a difference against this disease, and through their support we will.”

Since its inception, the QVC Presents “FFANY Shoes on Sale event has sold more than 1 million pairs of shoes and raised nearly $25 million to be donated to leading breast cancer research and education institutions.  This is the largest fundraising event in the shoe industry in which dozens of brands, such as Nine West, Anne Klein New York, Via Spiga, Calvin Klein, Coach Footwear, UGG Australia, Cole Haan, Frye, Timberland, Michael by Michael Kors and Naturalizer graciously donate products to help fund research for a cure.

The Fashion Footwear Charitable Foundation was created to support ongoing research and education programs in the fight against breast cancer and is supported by members of the Fashion Footwear Association of New York (FFANY).  Donated footwear is sold on live television on QVC during the Fashion Footwear Charitable Foundation’s annual charity benefit, QVC Presents “FFANY Shoes on Sale.”  Net proceeds are distributed to leading breast cancer research and education institutions across the United States, including the Abramson Cancer Center at the University of Pennsylvania; The Breast Cancer Research Foundation; The Gillette Center for Women’s Cancers at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute; The Joyce Eisenberg Keefer Breast Center at John Wayne Cancer Institute; The University of Michigan Comprehensive Cancer Center’s Breast Oncology Program; and Siteman Cancer Center at Barnes-Jewish Hospital and Washington University School of Medicine.
