U-M Trauma Burn Center fundraiser enters 25th year
Bowl for Burns, Organized by 'Downriver'-Area Fire Fighters to support U-M Trauma Burn Center, will take place Feb. 3 - March 4
ANN ARBOR, MI –The Trauma Burn Center
at the University of Michigan Health System will host the
fundraising event, Bowl for Burns, from Friday, Feb. 3 through
Saturday, March 4. The event will take place each Friday
at 9 p.m., and Saturdays at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m., at Parkway
Lanes in Trenton, Mich.
Bowl for Burns is a month-long charity bowling tournament
organized by a group of ‘Downriver’ fire fighters
and volunteers. The event is in its 25th year.
Teams and volunteers are made up of fire fighters, nurses,
physicians, area businesses and more. Contributions from
the Bowl for Burns event support essential research and programs
at the Trauma Burn Center, such as Kids Burn Camp, nursing
education opportunities and research.
Tournament manager and retired deputy chief of the Trenton
Fire Department, Dan Whaley, was one of the tournament’s
founders 25 years ago, and remains its strongest advocate.
Says Whaley, “Our group has visited the Trauma Burn
Center many times to see the impact we have made. A burn
or trauma injury changes lives, in each case forever.”
The general public is invited to register a team to bowl
or to attend any of the event dates where Trauma Burn Center
merchandise will be on sale, and giveaways and raffles will
take be available.
There is a fee for registering bowling teams, but admittance
to the events is free. The culmination of the tournament
is celebrated each year with an award ceremony and live auction
featuring sports memorabilia, gift and travel packages, dinner
certificates and more. This year’s auction will take
place at 5 p.m. on Saturday, March 4.

Verified Center by the American College of Surgeons and the
American Burn Association. The Center is a leader in innovative
and effective patient care and has a strong commitment to
research, education and injury prevention. Each year, an
average of 1,500 patients suffering from traumatic injuries
and burns are admitted to the Center.
