ANN ARBOR, MI –Two hundred and ninety-four physicians from the University of Michigan Health System have been named to the “Best Doctors in America” list, putting them among the top 3 to 5 percent of doctors in their specialties nationwide.
Of all the health systems in southeast Michigan, U-M has the most physicians on the national list. Compiled every two years by Best Doctors, the list is based on an in-depth survey of more than 30,000 physicians in 43 specialties and more than 400 subspecialties of medicine. Those surveyed were asked, “If you or a loved one needed a doctor in your specialty, to whom would you refer them?” and the answers scored and weighted for a final tally. The U-M physicians listed represent many different areas of medicine, from the pediatric specialists at the C.S. Mott Children’s Hospital to the surgeons, oncologists and radiation oncologists who treat patients at the U-M Comprehensive Cancer Center. In all, the 294 physicians come from three dozen specialties. More than 2,000 physicians treat patients at U-M Hospitals and Health Centers — and all of them have faculty positions at the U-M Medical School. The 294 “Best Doctors” from U-M do not include about a dozen other physicians who have adjunct faculty positions because of their work with U-M residents at other hospitals in the area. Best Doctors database of physicians is used by patients, families and physicians to seek expert medical resources and guidance to treat illnesses and injuries. Access to the full database and other services are provided through employer-based benefit plans. Best Doctors was founded in 1989 by two physicians affiliated with Harvard Medical School, whose goal was to provide greater access to dependable, high quality medical information and care for individuals with serious illness and injuries. Best Doctors in America and Best Doctors are registered trademarks of Best Doctors, Inc. in the United States and other countries. Written by Kara Gavin |
