ANN ARBOR, MI - On Saturday, Aug. 23, the Health Fair Coalition will sponsor the third annual Health Fair as part of its ongoing effort inform, educate and empower the community to adapt healthier lifestyle behaviors. The fair, which will include free health screenings for the public and activities for kids, will be held from noon to 5 p.m. at Parkridge Community Center and Parkridge Park, located at 591 Armstrong Street in Ypsilanti. Health information and community resources will also be available. Following the fair, health education workshops will be held to not only promote good health, but also encourage local residents to utilize local health care resources within the community. The Health Fair Coalition is composed of representatives from the Parish Nurses of St. Joseph's Mercy Health System, The Ypsilanti Health Coalition, The Program for Multicultural Health at the University of Michigan Health System, Washtenaw County Public Health, The City of Ypsilanti, and other local organizations. The coalition was created based on the need to increase African American churches, businesses, and organizations to work toward reducing the health disparity among African American residents.
