PFRG Day 2009
The Michigan Pelvic Floor Research Group has been formed around, and within, the Sex and Gender Factors Affecting Women’s Health SCOR. It includes approximately 40 individuals – both SCOR investigators and others performing research related to pelvic floor dysfunction who are gynecologists, urologists, colo-rectal surgeons, biomechanical engineers, nurse researchers, nurse midwives, social scientists, cell biologists, epidemiologists, anatomists, anthropologists and statisticians who are dedicated to improving prevention and treatment of women’s pelvic floor disorders. Our strategy has been to use the multifaceted approaches from these many disciplines to see fresh approaches to long standing problems, and to design hypothesis driven research to answer questions of direct importance to improving prevention and treatment. The nature of the interactions within this group is consistent with the goals of interdisciplinary scientific inquiry, as outlined by the NIH which notes “Interdisciplinary research integrates the analytical strengths of two or more often disparate scientific disciplines to create a new hybrid discipline”.
The John O.L. DeLancey Society was established this past September with a reception in Chicago during the 2008 annual American Urogynecologic Society meeting. Pictures from the event can be seen on our Group Smugmug site:
