Global Initiatives

In many parts of the world, women frequently die from pregnancy and childbirth complications. Despite more than 15 years of work by the international health community, this number has not changed. In other areas of health, we have seen improvement and the gap between developed and developing countries has lessened, but maternal mortality still has the greatest disparity between developed and developing countries. Through Global Initiatives, the University of Michigan department of Obstetrics and Gynecology is one of only a few departments nationwide with an active commitment to improving maternal mortality internationally.

Mission

The mission of Global Initiatives is to collaborate with developing country universities and community based organizations in research and programs to reduce maternal mortality.
