Medical Student Education Coordinator
Erin Doelling Makki
My name is Erin Doelling Makki and I am the Medical Student Education Coordinator for this Clerkship.
We are excited to introduce you to the clinical world of Obstetrics and Gynecology. The rotation should provide a good mix of hands-on clinical teaching and experience, as well as sufficient didactic lectures. The following is just to briefly let you know about some of the non-clinical things that will come up throughout the rotation.
Most of my contact with you is via e-mail. If I need to reach you immediately, I will page you. If you are at a location other than the U-M and are using a paging system from that location, please be sure to sign your pager out to that number.
The Medical School is requiring Medical Students to record patient encounters on your PDAs and hot sync them at least once per week. This data is used for LCME requirements. Please do not wait until the end of the rotation to record your data. Also note that any patient data recorded at other locations must also be entered into the PDA. To access the CLTP Web site for more information, visit the Learning Resource Center Web site.
You will be evaluated throughout the clerkship on your clinical performance. It is 55% of your grade, so these evaluations are of utmost importance. Evaluations are provided for the faculty on the Web by the Medical School the faculty and house officers can access the evaluation form through this website. At the end of each week, I will ask for you to send me an email containing those attendings and house officers with whom you have worked during that week. It is imperative that you do this so that I can track down evaluations that have not been submitted. These evaluations are helpful in determining your Clinical Performance score.
You will also be required to evaluate the attendings and house officers with whom you have worked during the clerkship. These evaluations are confidential and are distributed to the attendings and house officers annually with a notation that the evaluation was completed by a student (no name or rotation noted). These evaluations are used for review and promotional purposes and are as important to the faculty and house officers as the evaluations that they complete are to you! Please be honest in your evaluations. COMMENTS ARE MANDATORY and you will receive a notice if you have not completed yours by the Wednesday before your exams. The website to complete these evaluations is https://www.umms.med.umich.edu/curreval/report.do.
The Essay Exams will take place on the last Thursday of the rotation, in the morning around 8 a.m. The Shelf Exam will take place on the last Friday of the rotation also around 8 am. The Essay Exam will take 1-1/2 hours, and the NBME Shelf Exam is 2 hours 10 minutes in length.
Please feel free to contact me via e-mail at: emakki@umich.edu or by phone: 734-615-6995 with any questions or concerns regarding your OBGYN Clerkship.
We hope you have a good rotation and an enjoyable learning experience!
