Maternal Fetal Medicine

Cosmas J.M. van de Ven, M.D., has directed the Maternal Fetal Medicine Division since September 2003.

The University of Michigan has committed a vast array of resources for the C.S. Mott Children’s and Women’s Hospital Replacement Project. The project has required significant input from the Maternal Fetal Medicine Division. With an anticipated move-in date of spring 2011, the estimated one-million-square-foot facility will provide the clinical, inpatient and office space needed to meet our growing demands.

We have expanded the Perinatal Assessment Center and increased attention to the role genetics plays in obstetrics. This expansion has enabled the center to provide the appropriate, comprehensive care required for patients with antenatal diagnostic and therapeutic challenges.

And with the implementation of OB Trace Vue, an electronic, paperless documenting system, the Department ofObstetrics and Gynecology’s pursuit of information technology applications should secure it as a national leader in this emerging field.

Our Maternal Fetal Medicine Division is actively involved in important clinical, academic and hospital issues. Such involvement will solidify our continued growth and success.
