Our Patient and Families

The Medical Procedures Unit opened in 1991 and currently includes the following programs: Medicine Gastrointestinal Endoscopy, including colonoscopy, upper endoscopy, flexible sigmoidoscopy, dilation procedures, esophageal sclerotherapy and banding, ERCP, endoscopic ultrasound, YAG laser, argon plasma coagulator, liver biopsy, paracentesis, therapeutic rectal procedures, banding and Botox. Surgical gastrointestinal and thoracic endoscopy; pediatric gastrointestinal endoscopy; pulmonary bronchoscopy; cardiac biopsy and right heart catheterization; anesthesia pain services; rheumatology deep muscle biopsy and fine needle arthroscopy; gastrointestinal physiology laboratory including motility studies, H. pylori testing and others; and cardiac catheterization and electrophysiology labs and recovery room services.

The mission of the Medical Procedures Unit is to provide outstanding medical care and education, promote the advancement of clinical research in the field of digestive diseases, and underscore the The University if Michigan Health System as a model of excellence in clinical medicine. The Medical Procedures Unit provides Gastrointestinal Endoscopy, Pediatric Gastrointestinal Endoscopy, Adult Pulmonary Bronchoscopy, Transtracheal Oxygen therapy,and Cardiac Biopsy.
