"The UMHS ECMO Program subscribes to the “patients and families first” philosophy. Communication, compassion, quality of care, and education are tools of the trade as we help families and friends cope with the severe illness of a loved one. Extracorporeal support is provided for the neonatal, pediatric, and adult populations with collaboration and teamwork of our nursing and medical leads. The application of this support is initiated when traditional supportive measures fail. An ECMO Transport team makes it possible to transport patients on ECMO from other healthcare facilities.

The uniqueness of extracorporeal support attracts the interest of all health care professionals. Internationally recognized as a leader in extracorporeal life support and research, the program serves as an educational resource to other health care centers. As a provider of a truly unique and highly technical service, the ECMO Program recognizes its place in the healthcare community and understands the importance of public relations with our local, regional, and national referral base."

“My vision for 9C is to foster excellence in acute psychiatric nursing care. I see my role as creating a nursing practice environment that frees RNs to develop to their fullest potential guided by the compass of patient centered care. I also have a role in connecting Psychiatric Nursing to the Department of Psychiatry, to one another, and to the larger nursing community at U of M. I have great interest in LEAN, Human Factor Engineering and ‘High Reliability Organizations’. I am fascinated by the interrelatedness of these areas, and their potential benefits to nursing care. In particular, improving the cognitive environment in which nurses provide patient care.”
