UMHS Nursing Leadership

Hope for the future through excellence in patient care would not take place without the care and dedication of our nurses and leaders. At the University of Michigan our visionary nursing leadership challenges and rewards nurses to march forward and excel to their fullest potential.

Marge Calarco Florence Nightingale reminds us that "No system can endure that does not march. Are we walking to the future or to the past? For us who Nurse, our Nursing is a thing, which, unless in it we are making progress every year, every month, every week, take my word for it, we are going back"(1893).

Nurses at the University of Michigan have marched forward since 1891 when the School of Nursing was first created. We have continued to attract the most talented nurses who believe in the power of compassion and teamwork within a united community of nurses.
