The
University of Michigan W.K. Kellogg Eye Center is a
complete eye care facility, with locations in Ann Arbor,
Brighton, Livonia, West Bloomfield, and Ypsilanti. There
are 31 eye doctors who are full-time faculty members
in the Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences.
Patients
with complicated eye problems are referred to the sub-specialty
clinics in Ann Arbor. Those who require surgery are
operated on in state-of-the-art laser and surgical units
in Ann Arbor or Livonia. Patients who wish to have routine
eye examinations and patients without referrals may
be seen in the Comprehensive Eye Clinics in Ann Arbor,
Brighton, Livonia, West Bloomfield, or Ypsilanti, and
may be referred to the appropriate sub-specialty clinics
when necessary.
In
addition to the patient care program, the
Kellogg Eye Center also has an outstanding vision research
program.
Sixteen basic scientists, collaborating with the clinicians,
focus their research on studying various aspects of
the eye, its functions, and the diseases that affect
it. In addition, the clinicians participate in many
national studies that look at improved treatments for
eye diseases. These
studies provide patients who wish to participate with
an opportunity to try new treatments and medications
that are not yet available to the public at large.
