About Our Speakers

Marcy Mallouf has enjoyed a rich and varied career since her graduation from the School of Nursing at Winona State University, Minnesota, 26 years ago. In addition to providing clinical patient care, she has served in academia and nursing administration. As a lactation consultant, she has worked in both inpatient and outpatient settings. For the last 16 years Marcy has specialized in NICU care and currently directs lactation services for the NICU and IICN at Lucile Packard Children's Hospital at Stanford University in California.

Barbara Wintch is a graduate of Jewish Hospital School of Nursing in Cincinnati, Ohio. Most of her career has been in Pediatrics, including 5 years in a level III NICU. While working in a ten-office Pediatric practice, Barbara and a colleague developed a comprehensive outpatient lactation program. This began her journey to become a certified lactation consultant. Barbara was on the lactation staff at Lucile Packard Children's Hospital at Stanford University when the PMG's were first developed. In 2006, she joined the inpatient lactation program for Kaiser Permanente in Walnut Creek, California.

The Patient Management Guidelines (PMG's) were developed by Dr. Jane Morton, an international leader in lactation. They are a tool used by physicians, nurses, and lactation consultants as a team to integrate services for postpartum families. This system is designed to identify all mothers and infants "at risk" for lactation failure. It uses an organized approach to ensure families do not receive conflicting information and increases their satisfaction and success with breastfeeding. Our speakers, Marcy Mallouf and Barbara Wintch developed and implemented the PMG's lactation education program for the nursing staff at Lucile Packard Children's' Hospital, Stanford University, and Clinics.
