Lisa Floyd "The ability to 'float' as a nurse is a true art and a specialty. It isn't a choice that all nurses make. However, the nurses in CSR do choose to float. They achieve excellence at it and thrive when they are doing it. Thus, it is my goal to equip these nurses with what is needed for them to float competently, to give patients the best possible care. It is also important to provide a home base for the nurses so they feel a sense of nursing community, regardless of where that unit or clinic is located."

Professional Overview

Lisa joined the University of Michigan Health System in 1978. Her career began as a staff nurse on a general medicine unit in "old Main". Part of the unit was 17 beds in one ward, no air-conditioning and limited bathroom availability. Lisa has many good memories from working there. She transferred to the Burn Unit after three years to acquire ICU experience. However, the following year, the assistant head nurse position became available on her old unit. Thus in 1981, Lisa's interests turned to management - where she has been ever since. In the 1980's, she was the nurse manager of 6B, 6C and the DCU. In 1990, Lisa's career took a significant change from one of full-time career person to full time mom/part-time assistant head nurse (evenings) in NRP/Supplemental Staffing/CSR. She stayed in this part-time position until the spring of 1997. At that time, Lisa became the manager of CSR. She has participated in various committees and workgroups throughout her time at Michigan.
