Our Patient and Families
The General Clinical Research unit has 16 inpatient beds, 2 outpatient beds, 3 outpatient ambulatory units, and a cardiovascular study unit. Most of our research patients fit into Cardiology, Oncology, Endocrinology, Rheumatology, Nuclear Medicine, Genetics and normal categories. Children are sometimes admitted when they are participating in a research study. Acuity is moderate and the average length of stay is one week and ranges from overnight to 8 weeks.

Philosophy of Care
7A provides safe, consistent, effective care and enables research protocols to be completed accurately and efficiently. It also helps us maintain a staff of capable and creative patient care- and research-oriented nurses. We do this by developing our nurses to their full potential, supporting patients participating in research, and maintaining an environment conducive to creative research and patient care. We use a Protocol Nursing approach to care, much like case management, that provides coordination and continuity from the first point of patient contact through post-care follow-up via telephone.
