Our Patient and Families
The Department of Anesthesiology provides comprehensive anesthesia care throughout the perioperative period. The department is comprised of divisions of pediatric anesthesia, obstetrical anesthesia, neuroanesthesia, cardiac anesthesia, anesthesia for transplant surgery, intensive care medicine and pain management. The department also maintains a Preoperative Anesthesia Clinic for ambulatory patients, a Difficult Airway Clinic, and manages the Post Anesthesia Care Unit (Recovery Room).

A wide variety of anesthetic techniques are provided which suit the patients’ specific needs and the needs of the surgical procedure. These techniques range from continuous analgesia for women in labor to complex invasive management techniques for patients undergoing heart, liver and lung transplant. Postoperative patients may take advantage of our Acute Pain Service to make their recovery period as free of discomfort as possible. This is available for both adult and pediatric patients.

In addition, the department manages the Multidisciplinary Pain Center which provides a wide variety of coordinated multidisciplinary approaches to the management of difficult chronic pain syndromes.
