The nursing staff in the University of Michigan Health System (UMHS) Ambulatory Care Services is committed to providing patient/family-centered care.
Ambulatory care nursing is provided on an episodic basis, either in a single encounter or in a series of encounters over time. Ambulatory care nurse-patient encounters take place in clinics and health centers, but also in the home or work setting, via telecommunications or the Internet. The focus of ambulatory care nursing services encompasses use of cost-effective way to assist patients and families in promoting wellness, preventing illness, and managing acute and chronic diseases to attain the highest level health status throughout the life span. Ambulatory care nursing services are provided to individuals who seek care and assistance with self-management and/or family-supported health activities, and may involve community-based agencies.
Ambulatory Care nurses practice in outpatient clinics at the main UMHS campus, but also in community-based offices, call centers and health centers in Washtenaw, Livingston, Oakland and Wayne counties.
