Our
Patient and Families
The CCMU
is a 20-bed unit. Its patients are critically ill adults,
18 years of age and older. Beds are managed by the Division
of Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine with the Department
of Internal Medicine. The patients' medical diagnoses commonly
include respiratory insufficiency or failure, hepatic failure,
renal failure, sepsis, coma, hypertensive crisis, GI hemorrhage,
endocrine/electrolyte imbalance, and post bone marrow transplant
patients who are experiencing complications.
Philosophy
of Care
The critically ill medical patient
has the right to highly skilled, holistic care. It is the
primary aim of the CCMU nurses to work as members of the health
team to restore the patient to an optimal level of functioning.
The team caring for the patient communicates with the patient
and their family/significant others. Contact and communication
between the patient and family/significant others is encouraged
and facilitated through open visitation hours between 10:00am
and 10:00pm. This unit's nursing care delivery system functions
as a member of the interdisciplinary healthcare team, and
features total patient care with interdisciplinary patient
care rounds held daily.
