Our Patient and Families
This 32-bed unit provides 24-hour nursing care to adult patients. It is the home floor for Pulmonary and Internal Medicine. A team approach utilizing ICU Techs is nursing care delivery system on 6C. Within this system, RNs assume the role of Patient Care Coordinator responsible for planning patient care from admission to discharge.

Types of patients treated within 6C include pulmonary patients present with compromise of the cardiopulmonary system. Many of the patient population on 6C are transferred to this unit from the adjacent Critical Medicine Unit. These patients can often be a challenge to your nursing skills in the areas of assessment and clinical intervention. Pulmonary Medicine patients are typically admitted with problems such as asthma, Wegner's granuloma, COPD, pleural effusion, pulmonary embolus, pneumothorax, pneumonia, sarcidosis, and cystic fibrosis. Internal Medicine patients are admitted with a variety of diseases, and our patient ages range from adults to the elderly. Typical patients present with diabetes, renal failure, liver disease, HTN, and CHF.

Philosophy of Care
The nurses of 6C believe that the patient who is an active participant in his/her own health care is one who is educated about their illness, its implications, and the means by which one can make a positive adaptation in order to live and achieve within the existing state of wellness.

Caregivers within 6C subscribe to a holistic approach which places equal emphasis upon the physical, psychological, emotional and cultural needs of the patient and significant others as we strive to assist them in the attainment of self sufficiency and a return to the environment that best meets their needs.
