Our Patient and Families
6B is a 32-bed unit that primarily includes patients admitted to the Internal Medicine services of Gastroenterology (GI/Liver) and General Medicine . The interdisciplinary team provides care to patients and families across the adult life-span who are experiencing acute and chronic episodes of their illness.

Philosophy of Care
It is our goal to assist the patient and family in maximizing their level of wellness and functional ability.
We believe that

  • each of our patients are unique individuals with their own physical, psychological, cultural and spiritual makeup
  • patients and families come to us with their own perceptions, values, strengths, weaknesses, and environmental influences
  • patient and family input is critical to providing a holistic approach to the plan of care
  • collaboration between the patient/family and interdisciplinary care team provides best quality care
  • the nurse's role is to act as a primary caregiver, planner, teacher, counselor, liaison and patient advocate
