Our
Patient and Families
Major
patient populations include: spinal cord injuries; strokes;
traumatic brain injuries; neuromuscular injuries or disease;
and patients with debilitation from long-term, complex medical
problems such as transplants. Up to two rehabilitation patients
may be ventilator dependent.
Philosophy
of Care
6A nurses are committed to patient
self-management and family involvement. At the same time,
our nurses provide excellent medical nursing and highly skilled
compensatory care to patients who are sometimes clinically
fragile and often very dependent. A major nursing focus is
patient and family education to prepare for care at home.
Our
Nursing Team
Nurses here are actively involved in interdisciplinary
collaborative practice, and are active members of a care team
that includes MDs; Physical, Occupational, Speech, Independent
Living and Recreational Therapists; Social Workers; Psychologists;
Rehab Engineers; Orthotics specialists; and others as patient
needs dictate. Collaboration occurs through structured team
meetings and extensive care plan development. Patients and
families are also members of the team and are involved in
systematic discharge planning. Primary nursing is practiced
with all patients.
