Our Patient and Families
5A is a 32-bed unit specializing in orthopaedics and trauma. These patients are provided post-operative care for such procedures as total joint replacements, open reduction internal fixation of fractures and spinal fusions. The nurses and physicians of 5A are experts in the care for the above types of patients, as well as experts in post-operative pain management and discharge education. Nursing care is individualized to each patient and/or family in order to address and meet their personal needs.

Philosophy of Care
The professional nursing staff on 5A functions as a member of the collaborative health team and delivers care utilizing ANA standards. Patient care is designed to meet physical, psychosocial, and maturational needs. Care is provided to preserve autonomy and encourage patient participation in self-care. Nursing care applies scientific and humanistic knowledge in a professional manner. The nursing staff provide leadership in the nursing profession by participating with student education and research.

Our Nursing Team
This unit prides itself on the family environment we have between our employees; service here is far more than just work. We also pride ourselves on the high quality care we provide to our patients and their families.
