How to Apply

Candidates must have at least one year of surgical training prior to starting the neurosurgery residency. A one-year internship in general surgery under the auspices of the Section of General Surgery is offered at the University of Michigan (Neurological Surgery Categorical). Two positions of this type are available each year and are filled through the National Resident Matching Program; all applicants should apply for participation in the San Francisco Matching Service, which precedes the NRMP by one month. Interviews

Interview Day

We run a split interview with a morning and afternoon session.  The morning session begins at 8:00 a.m. and ends with a luncheon.  The afternoon session begins with the luncheon and ends at about 6:00 p.m.

Day Before the Interview

Applicants typically arrive the evening before their interview in order to meet informally with our current residents and have dinner with them.  It is an excellent opportunity for applicants to get the “inside scoop” about our program.
